here's what i think: the baby is her sons.

a few days after the baby is born Daniel (messed up to begin with) can't deal with it, and he kills himself.
Howard Stern (the laywer) is a family friend, and he knows whats going on, so he offers to be the "dad" to keep the story out of the news.
but birkhead (the boyfriend) claims the kid is his.
things come to a head and a couple of days ago the court orders a DNA sample from the baby.
Anna Nicole is already living with the shame of what she's done, and what it did to her son; once the paternity suit is settled, it will become public knowledge.
She can't live with this, and kills herself.

(or stern is a criminal mastermind and he's offing people left and right to get at the money...)
