my guilty pleasure
is back, and it's better. much better.

american idol upped the age limit. i'm not sure what it was before, maybe 24ish? now it's up to 28, and it really shows. wayyy more talent than ever before. they've cut it down to 12 guys and 12 girls, and the 12 guys went first last night. two will get cut on wednesday.

first impressions:

during the boring part(the past few weeks), where simon tells everyone they suck and fox lets bad comics do their schtick on a national stage, three of the guys really stood out for me, and they all made it to the top 12.

david brown is just a great singer. he wasn't great last night though, probably due to nerves. he's not getting cut anytime soon.

scott savol looks just like private pyle from full metal jacket, but can sing his ass off. again, not so great the first night, but i think he'll go far. people(simon) say he has an image problem. i say america doesn't care, look at clay and ruben. and even kelly and fantasia for that matter... none of them were the best looking. although they didnt look like schizophrenic serial killers either. but i ain't holding that against him.

constantine maroulis. finally, a real rocker on idol. like, he was in a band and stuff! and in rent! good to have a new flavor on idol, and like i said before, the age thing has a lot to do with it. there are more people who are confident and seasoned, and it makes it a lot harder to figure out who's going to make it and who's not. there just isn't as much suck this year. i thought he was great last night.

those three really stood out earlier, and i hope they make it far. the next guys blew me away last night.

bo bice was easily the best last night. i didn't notice too much of him during the last few shows, but goddamn it, last night he was the first guy on idol to actually rock the fucking thing. everytime they've tried to 'rock' before it just sounded cheesy, but last night this dude tore it up. another rocker just makes it that much better.

anwar robinson is this soft spoken music teacher who probably has the best voice out of all the guys. second best performance last night.

mario vazquez is another guy i didnt really notice earlier, but he was one of the best last night.

...and the rest

nikko smith is the artist formerly known as osbourne smith jr. ozzie smiths son! he's smooth.

judd harris was really good last night. but i dunno if he can stretch it for the long haul. seems like a one note kinda guy.

i would say one of the two getting booted will be from these three:

joseph murena, another guy who was good last night, but i don't see him getting very far.

anthony federov was weak last night. what is it with idol and effeminate blond guys with disabilities? last time it was the deaf guy jim. this time it's this guy, who had an emergency tracheotomoy when he was a baby and wasn't even supposed to speak above a whisper for the rest of his life.

travis tucker seems like a nice guy who can't stop smiling. we'll see if he stops on wednesday.

i think jospeh murena will be the one. for the first time though, everyone has a great voice. except:

jared yates. sorry dawg, you just didn't bring it. hope you packed up.
